Being in a country where cinema is a religion by itself, all of us do consume our own share of content by watching films & web series in our spaces. But, a cinema theatre is that one place that unites everyone irrespective of every thing.
Well, nevertheless the emotion that hooks us with the film doesn’t change with respect to any of the formats but there are filmmakers who do strive to give their viewers the best possible experience with their hold of technicalities & there are certain films that are meant to be experienced on the largest possible screen with the sound of top tier, the films that demand the best theatrical experience for themselves.
Let’s do have a quick look at the formats that are abundantly available all over the world.
1)35mm
A format that’s has been in existence since the dawn of cinema. The format got it’s name because the entire width of the film (including the area with sprockets) measures 35mm! This is also the most used film gauge.
2)70mm
a wide high-resolution film gauge for motion picture photography, with a negative area nearly 3.5 times as large as the standard 35 mm motion picture film format.
3)IMAX
which stands for Image MAXimum is a motion picture format that is radically different from the conventional process of rendering a motion picture. IMAX is a proprietary system of high-resolution cameras, film formats, film projectors, and theaters known for having very large screens with a tall aspect ratio (approximately either 1.43:1 or 1.90:1) and steep stadium seating, with the 1.43:1 ratio format being available only in few selected locations. Also gives 40% more imagery over the usual 35mm
There are types in IMAX theatres such as IMAX digital, IMAX Dome, IMAX Laser & IMAX 70mm.
4)4DX
a state-of-the-art film technology developed by CJ 4DPLEX which delivers an immersive multi-sensory cinematic experience. 4DX incorporates on-screen visuals with synchronized motion seats and environmental effects such as water, wind, fog, scent, snow and more, to enhance the action on screen. It is the world’s first and leading 4D movie technology brand as of now which strives to get the viewers into the film.
5)Dolby Cinema
uses a surround system called Dolby Atmos. Not only does the room use speakers around the theater, but Dolby also added speakers right above the audience. “It provides the viewers with the ability to hear audio from 5 in-screen speakers, 48 surround speakers, and four subwoofers with dual 4K laser projectors and produces 4x more resolution than the standard format. Dolby gives us images that are sharper, crisper, and have 500 times the contrast ratio of a standard projector, and twice the brightness. It’s the best HDR available. What exactly does that mean? HDR stands for High Dynamic Range - and its range is truly incredible. It will give you the brightest highlights, and the darkest blacks. This gives a much more realistic effect than any other format, and is incredibly immersive.
